What Candy Crush Teaches You About Life

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that Candy Crush is one of the most played games in the world. As of this moment, there are millions of people playing candy crush all over the world! It has become a phenomenon so much so that you can see people playing Candy Crush on trains, buses, metros, supermarket aisles etc.
I first downloaded Candy Crush after receiving the insanely large number of friend request from my friends on Facebook. Ever since then, I have been completely smitten by it. Today, I have crossed 950 levels and the game gets better and better with every level.
Many a time, I wonder how much similarity is there between life and candy crush. It often keeps me wondering, that even a game can teach so much about life. You can think of levels in terms of weeks and months of your life and then episodes spanning years of your life. Here are the top lessons I learned from playing Candy Crush-

Your Skills Get Better With Time

Do you remember the first time you played Candy Crush, how lousy were you? As the game progressed, your performance got better and better. That’s the truth about life! When you continue to work hard and be persistent, life rewards you with enhancement of your skills.

Your work becomes easier when you start enjoying it

Have you ever wondered how you crossed hundreds of level in Candy Crush? The answer is that you enjoy playing it. Well, the same applies to life. If you enjoy your work, your career would grow leaps and bounds. Before you know it, you would have crossed hundreds of ‘levels’ and ‘episodes’ in your career. Always choose a career you enjoy.

In Order To Succeed, You Need Both- Luck And Skills

Life can be pretty much like Candy Crush, with the criteria for winning the levels of life keeps changing. In life, these criteria can be about your health, finances, relationship. One thing that you know for sure is that it is always a combination of luck which includes innumerable parameters we cannot see, let alone control and the skills which include choices that we make at every point in our lives.

In Order To Win, You Must Not Let Your Focus Wander

Be it Candy Crush or real life, there is one simple rule- you cannot win unless you concentrate. You can keep moving forward without paying attention but you would end up coming back to the square one. It doesn’t matter how lucky you are, it doesn’t matter how amazing your start has been, if you really want to move to the next level, you got to focus.

Proper Planning And Strategy Go A Long Way

You can never underestimate having a good strategy and planning in place. Without the planning, you are nothing but a lost puppy.  Life and Candy Crush, both are like Jungles and if you do not have a clear plan laid out before you, you are bound to get lost.

Keep Score But Not Too Much

If you keep looking at the score every time you make a move, you are more likely to lose. It is just a sort of distraction rather than motivation. As Gita says, “Karam Kar, Phal Ki Chinta Mat Kar”.

Luck Can As Well Be Created

When you prepare well in advance, luck then becomes a statistical certainity, so to speak. For instace, in the game, if you manage your board strategically, then once in a while, you would get a perfect candy falling from above. In life, if you keep yourself ready to hit the ground running, opportunities would come falling from the sky.

Look for Black Swan Events

In the game as well as in life, never underestimate the power of favourable unexpected events (black swan events). It is a common mistake that we at times, focus on one plan, one play and end up missing a perfect opening in another part of the board.

You Can’t Always Get What You Want

As we said earlier that you need a bit of luck to move ahead in the game. But as it turns out, luck is a harsh mistress. You can’t have luck all the time. You can get a lucky break but it is rare to have everything go exactly as per your plan every damn time.  It simply doesn’t work that way.

You Need To Keep Moving

If you ever find yourself completely stuck in the game, you keep moving and making changes, at times, rearranging things and even breaking the rules. The point is to not stop. You are allowed to take rest, but never stop.

Don’t Quit, No Matter How Bleak Things Look

Sometimes it so happens that the game looks bleak and you feel as you have lost the game but keep playing till the very last chance you have because sometimes things do take a turn when you have just one chance left. It has happened to me many times in the game as well in life. I felt as if I have lost a level halfway through, but things turned around at the very last moment. Never give in to the tempetation to press the quit button in the game or in life. You never know whether you win or lose unless you play till the end. In case you lose, life will give you another chance.

Money Would Give You An Edge But Without The Satisfaction Of Winning

Sometimes when you run out of lives (chances) in the game, you feel so bad that you become ready to spend some money buying extra lives (chances) but it is this temptations that you should always resist because money can get your ahead in the game real fast but what is the point of playing it this way? If you are patient enough, both life and Candy Crush would give you another chance.

Sometimes It’s Just Not Your Day

It so happens that on particular days, we run out of luck. That time, it is okay to shutdown Candy Crush and take some rest because rushing into something when the time is not right would only give you headaches! In life as well, learn to take breaks.

Go With Your Gut

Sometimes, you come across these automated suggestions as to what your next move should be. We all know that these suggestions are of no use. No one ever won either the game of life or Candy Crush by following outside suggestions and advice without applying own mind. You need to go with your gut because we all carve our own unique paths.

Don’t Be A Control Freak

Have you ever felt like Monica from friends? You do have this urge to control the outcome sometime or the other but no matter how carefully you do things, sometimes it is just not upto you. At such times, you need to have patience and faith to stay the course and let it be.

What do you think?
