Use Color To Energize Your Home & Life!

Use Color To Energize Your Home & Life! Color is a very complex study in feng shui and even in psychology— but it need not be so serious! While the space of an article is not enough room to share the intricate history and meaning of every color under the sun, I thought it would be fun to share some exciting ways to use color with intention to make shifts in the energy of your home and life.Dana

1. I love metallic gold. Elementally, gold it is metal. I like sprinkling sparkling gold throughout a home (or other metal- but I like golden the best, personally) to increase the energy. Gold-infused fabrics, golden statues, gold picture frames and home accents all add a shine and richness to the home. I add extra gold to the far left corner of the house from the entrance door- the “money” area- when it is warranted as well!

2. Yellows add lots of warmth and radiance. In a classical sense, the center of your floor plan (if you were going to draw it out and then make a big X through it from corner to corner) is a great place for the color. 3. Green is a color of healing and creativity. Studies have shown that seeing a green landscape while healing from an illness can increase the healing rate. Nature is full of green wood energy- the flexible, adaptable, exciting energy- that promotes positive changes. Adding green where you need to be more creative- even the color of a journal- is a fun way to integrate more of this spirit into your days.

3. Blue is rare to find in nature. It is a magnificent color that brings self-confidence, self-reflection and a sense of being cool…like moving water in a sea. Blue also helps you to express yourself more fully. I wear one of many dark blue dresses if I need to give a presentation or speak a lot- it helps me feel really communicative. You can add blue anywhere with positive results… except the kitchen- unless you are on a diet. Blue suppresses the appetite, so a blue kitchen or plates can make food less appetizing.

4. Red is a classic color to magnetize the eyes. Red dominates a space. Red is a color associated with all things energetic and good. Red raises your blood pressure and wakes up your body. Red, therefore, is a great color for warning signs. Red is not good for bedrooms in large doses unless you need the energy. It can cause insomnia. Red also brings you toward it- as though hypnotized. Red doors are a classic feng shui cure. Women who wear red on first dates are more likely to get a second date.

5. Violet is a color of transcendence. It is a great color for meditation rooms and other spaces where spirit prevails over matter. Violet is less great in massive doses in gathering rooms, as it can subdue and help people “space out” rather than tuning in and engaging with each other socially!

6. Orange imbues health, creativity and prosperity on a physiological level. I have an orange tea cup that changes the rhythm of my day. Orange is a fabulous color to mix into décor where you want to add warmth and cheer. Orange is also a fantastic color to wear if you are healing an injury or illness. Too much orange can be overwhelming to our senses, but coral walls, orange silk pillows and other great ways to bring orange to your environment can create a very dynamic- and unexpected- positive effect. Whether in your wardrobe, your furnishings, or even your food, color brings tremendous life to your life! Mix more color into your life in ways that feel great to you and you will feel the good vibes flowing!
