Milk – Food or Poison for kids!!

When it comes to children, every parent is concerned and attempts to do what is best for their child. We seem to rely on the knowledge of how our parents took care of us and try to give our children care in a similar manner. It’s more like tradition.

But being modern day parents armed with knowledge of the advances in science and technology, do we still rely on our past experiences, or do we manage to adapt ourselves to better ways in giving our children care. A more common misinterpretation of child behavior could be your child’s resistance to drinking milk. But is it so? Do we lend our observant eye to why our kids seem to avoid milk. The sinister answer may shock you!

Have you heard of milk allergy? Does seem like a far-fetched familiar term but somehow we don’t tend to think that our kids could have it, do we? Well, milk allergy is a kind of food allergy. Milk maybe totally harmless to someone who has no allergy problem, but someone who has milk allergy just can’t have milk. Milk allergy is caused when a person’s body fails to produce sufficient amounts of an enzyme called lactase, an enzyme that is needed to digest the sugar present in milk.

Check if your child shows any signs of a reaction after drinking milk such as rash on skin, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, etc. As a concerned parent, you may want to take your child to the doctor and have him/her assessed for milk allergies.

Do not worry if your child misses nutrition from the regular milk source. You can opt for an alternative milk source to give to your children such as soy milk, coconut milk, almond milk, etc. These alternatives are now readily available in the market. You could alternate the use of milk alternatives so that your child is not deprived of nutritional benefits, for example you could give your child soy milk for a week followed by almond milk the next week.
