Fragrance Layering: This Will Change The Way You Use Perfume Forever

When it comes to your unique style, fragrances are as much a part of it as your outfits and makeup. Fragrances are the invisible pieces of clothing if you will! If done right, it can add just the right element to your style.

Do you know that you can create your unique bespoke scent at home, without spending thousands of bucks with a perfumer? What we are talking about here is called fragrance layering. It is an interesting concept which is already prevalent in the West and works so well that it will get you hooked. It is as simple as combining two perfumes on the top of one another and bingo, you have an entirely new scent.

There is no set rule while mixing fragrances. But try to stick to perfumes from similar fragrance families such as floral, woody, vanilla, citrus, oud etc. Understand the perfume families and layer your perfume with similar smelling scents. Initially, stick to layering from one fragrance family and then move on to layering fragrances across the families. In general, there are 7 families of perfumes as given in the image below-

When you spray the fragrances, do so in order of intensity, using the stronger fragrance first and then moving on to the lighter and delicate one. We suggest you to first layer an eau de parfum, which had a 15 to 20% of fragrance and hence it is more potent and last longer. For the lighter one, use eau de toilette, which contains a lower percentage of fragrance, between 5 to 15%.

Although it is a hit and miss process, it is all worth it in the end once you find the combination you love.
