November is sure to be exciting with the release of Ram Leela. Deepika Padukone sets the silver screen ablaze in the avatar of a local Gujarati village belle. Deepika carries her Gujarati costumes and makeup with equal ease as she did playing a South Indian lady in Chennai Express. Here we explore some of the fashion details that have gone into giving Deepika her lusty Leela look.

Costumes for Leela

The costumes are based exclusively on the Gujarati style and designed by Anju Modi. Deepika is seen wearing lehengas and lehenga cholis that portray Gujarati choice of bright colours and designs. The designs reflect simplicity, colour and elegance. The various bold colours highlight the various sides of Deepika’s character in the movie. She embodies colour and fire. Off white colour and the eye-catching combination of red and black is seen Deepika’s lehenga choli. She is also seen in a bridal lehenga choli in the song Nagada sang dhol baje. The costume has golden artwork which lights it up to keep parity with the liveliness of the peppy garba song and the steps.

Makeup for the local look

Deepika looked splendid despite given the light bouffant make up by Mehera Kolah.

Jewellery for the jingling belle

The earrings that Deepika is seen wearing are mostly traditional. One of them is the Amrapali style of earrings that bears the designs of both the sun and the moon. She is wearing a half circle earring which has a little chain that goes over her ear. The traditional design of the earring highlights the shape of her face. Deepika is also seen wearing sliver coloured bangles which go with the simple makeup.
