In India, despite the various measures, crimes against the women are increasing on an alarming rate. Hence, it’s high time for women to be cautious and ensure precautionary measures for their safety. The IT industry has come up with new innovative safety apps. They provide an easy way to stay safe on the road and alert family, friends or police in distress situations.

This app has been recently introduced by Microsoft India. It is available for Windows Phone users. To use the app, users need to add names of select contacts to the settings who can be reached out to in an emergency situation. Users can alert them through the SOS button. Clicking the SOS button will send a distress message to selected contacts, alerting them along with users’ location. The SOS button also sends emails to select email ids and posts to private Facebook groups. It can help security authorities track the user. The phone can be traced even if it is broken. The application is capable of one touch video recording that may be used later as evidence.

Channel V has developed this user-friendly Emergency App available for download on Android based phones. This app at the click of Panic button 2 times consecutively begins sending out alert messages to your contacts that you feed into the app as the designated receivers or guardians. The receiver will receive a link to your location every 2 minutes giving them your updated location. Also, you will get updates on the Crime Scene in India and a “Tips Feed” option exclusively giving you safety tips in an emergency situation.

Developed by Bipper, this app is available for download on Android and iphones. The free version allows you to set up a safety net of “Guardians” who receive your SOS text message with a link to a map showing your location via GPS. One Guardian you designate will receive a phone call. You can also program a Fake Incoming Call if you are threatened. If alarm is triggered you set off a siren (optional), and bSafe starts recording video and voice.
While these apps are quite advantageous, there are some major barriers such as GPS activation, constant need of internet access and a good network.
So Ladies apart from downloading these apps, ensure about your safety whenever you go out. Stay alert and stay safe!
