Amal Clooney is the perfect example of beauty with brain. She is the most intelligent and articulate law professional who also looks an absolute diva on the red carpet alongside her husband George Clooney, Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor-turned-husband. She is not just known for her awe-inspiring speeches but also a fashion sense that even actresses envy. Her effortless grace and strong confidence make her a force to be reckoned with. Clooney has represented a plethora of high-profile clients – from former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Being a women rights warrior, she also used her human-rights expertise to advocate for the cases of imprisoned journalists and Yazidi women abused under ISIS.
Here are the 7 reasons we believe she is the perfect role model for young girls-
1. Impressive Educational Background
Amal received her law degree from St. Hugh’s College, Oxford and then went on to enroll for her Masters in Law in NU School of Law. She has even taught Columbia Law School, after reaching at the top in her field. Not just that, she is fluent in three languages- English, French and Arabic.
2. Her Fight For The Right Of Women
Amal has been acknowledged for the work she does on behalf of Nadia Murad, a Yazidi woman who survived ISIS abduction and imprisonment after her family was murdered by the group. It was Amal who dared to bring a case against ISIS. She said to NBC Nightly News, if you can “expose their brutality and corruption,” it will be one step closer to shutting down the militant and murderous organization.
3. Impeccable Fashion Sense
It is not just about the beautiful and classy dresses she wears, but also about the fact that her sense of style is developed to make herself happy and not because she wants to impress someone else.
This is what she has to say on fashion being a part of her life- “I hate the idea that you somehow, as a human being, have to be put in a box. There’s no reason why lawyers can’t be fun—or actresses can’t be serious.”
4. An Inspired Philanthropist
Amal donates to plethora of charities. Being an immigrant herself, she is sympathetic to the children being separated from their families at the border. She, along with her husband, donated $100,000 to the Young Center of Immigrant Children’s Rights. She even started a scholarship in her name to give a female Lebanese student a chance to study at the United World College in Armenia with the global charity 100 Lives.
5. A Tough Law Professional
Her career is as extraordinary as it gets. From defending an Al-Jazeera journalist who was jailed for three years in Egypt to advising former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, she has handled some of the toughest cases in the world. Her clients also included Julian Assange of WikiLeaks and Enron.
6. A Fierce Mom
Being married to one of the most recognizable actors in the world, it must be an uphill task to keep her kids’ lives out of the spotlight. Amal, however, makes it a point to keep her kids’ life private and let them enjoy a normal childhood.
7. A Voice To The Underrepresented
Amal understands that she can use her fame to bring recognition to the underrepresented groups. She uses her power to speak on behalf of those who need a voice to support them. She is also not afraid to raise her voice about issues that need attention. She also agreed to defend Nadia Murad, a Yazidi woman enslaved by the Islamic State (ISIS) for several months. Since Nadia’s escape, she has worked hard to defend and liberate women affected by ISIS, as well as against the genocide of the Yazidi people. She also represents Yazda, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping the Yazidis. “It is time that we see IS commanders in the dock in The Hague, and I am honored to have been asked to represent Nadia and the Yazidi community in their quest for legal accountability,” said Clooney.
8. Her Clarity About Love
Amal met her now husband George Clooney when she was 35. She was very clear about what she wanted in life and how she wanted to fell in love.
In her own words, “It felt like the most natural thing in the world. Before that experience, I always hoped there could be love that was overwhelming and didn’t require any weighing or decision-making.”
She wasn’t willing to have a family just for the sake of it. She wanted to marry out of love and she waited for the right guy to come along.
She said, “I was 35 when I met him. It wasn’t obvious that it was going to happen for me. And I wasn’t willing or excited about the idea of getting married or having a family in the absence of that.”
