7 Foods to avoid while breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is one of the most exciting experiences of motherhood. As you breastfeed you create the bond with your little one. But a careful mother should also be careful about what she eats. There are certain food items which you should avoid while breastfeeding for they might affect the milk supply for your baby.

1. Caffeine

Caffeine gets into your breast milk and babies are not able to excrete caffeine as adults do. Babies therefore suffer from sleeplessness and irritation.

2. Chocolate

Chocolate contains nearly about 5-35mg caffeine. Result is equal to that caffeine.

3. Alcohol

Experts at the American Academy of pediatrics are of the opinion that alcohol consumption while breastfeeding can lead to abnormal weight, drowsiness, weakness and deep sleep of the infant.

4. Spicy foods

Too much of spicy food in your diet can cause your little to be fussy and irritated. Some extra ginger on the other hand can help soothe the tummy of the little one.

5. Peanuts

Chances are you baby might grow allergic to peanuts if you have them while breastfeeding. To get a clear idea it would be best to have a talk with your physician regarding peanuts.

6. Citrus fruits

Certain citrus fruits like pineapple, lemons and oranges contain a good amount of citric acid which can lead your baby to suffer from stomach problems and rash.

7. Vegetables

Some vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and cucumbers are responsible for the formation of baby gas. Beans should also be avoided in this regards.
