Yes, we wait for entire 1 year just for this grand festival which we celebrate with huge pomp and show. Be it wearing new clothes or meeting friends or eating the best dishes, Durga Puja combines all of that. In case you are wondering that what are the best dishes we should try in this upcoming 10 days, then we are here to help you.

1.Bhog

Let’s begin with the Prasad offering to Goddess Durga. This is what is served in each and every pandal as a lunch. This is one such awesome dish that can never be replicated doesn’t matter how hard you try. It is basically Khichri with lots of vegetables in it. This is served with some fried vegetable like eggplant or potato.

2. Keema Chop

Kolkata has infinity number of chops and cutlets. You can find almost chops of all the vegetables. But the most famous ones are the Keema Chop. Keema is actually minced meat and when it is fried and served in the form of a chop then you get the actual flavour of Durga Puja.

3. Baigan Bhaja

This is fried eggplant. This is a very simple dish which can be made within seconds in your home but the love and warmth with which Bengalis serve this dish especially during Durga Puja is a sight to watch. Also, it tastes best when it’s eaten hot. But don’t end up burning your mouth.

4. Roshogolla

When you are in Kolkata then you don’t need a time to eat Roshogolla. And especially for Bongs they can eat these white rounded sweets every day. This is made of Indian cottage cheese dipped in soft sugar syrup. And eating Roshogollas are considered auspicious in Bengalis.

5. Kosha Mangsho

This is a very spicy Bengali mutton curry. The dish has lots of big potatoes in it which is very rare to find in any other part of India. And this is what makes the dish different from all other mutton dishes.

6. Chicken Kabiraji

It is one of the most famous non vegetarian dish in Kolkata. The chicken is wrapped in gram flour with lots of spices and then deep fried. But before frying, the chicken is kept well marinated in the gram flour. This is a perfect evening snack in Kolkata during Durga Puja.

7. Kochuri

This is also called Puris in some other parts of India. Bhaturas are the extended form of these kochuris only. But these Kochuris are stuffed with green peas. And the pooris are made of wheat flour. You can eat them either on their own or with the very popular aloo curry. This is the perfect breakfast during Durga Puja.

8. Puchka

And how can we forget the small rounded tamarind water filled Golgappas. Of course they are available in entire India but what you get in Kolkata cannot be compared with any other Puchka. They are available in different water variations. These days we get pudina water, chilled water but the best one is tamarind water which is also the original water filling.

9. Ghugni

This is considered to be one of the most iconic dishes of Kolkata. This is a semi dried and thick gravy which is made of black gram or dried yellow peas. Ghugni can be eaten by topping them with onions and chillies or you can also eat them with puffed rice.

10. Mochar Ghonto

This is a semi dry curry. The curry mostly contains banana flowers with coconut and potato. This is cooked with roasted spices. But the biggest USP with this curry is the sweet texture which is obtained by adding sugar in piping hot oil.
